Red River Valley Veterans

Veterans Memorial

Memorial Garden

Paris, Texas - Under Construction

Begun in 2009, the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial is dedicated to all who have lived in a five-county area in Northeast Texas and Southeast Oklahoma and who have died as a result of their military service; to all veterans who have served honorably in the military and who survived their service; as well as all who are presently serving.

The Memorial Garden is being constructed in a three-phase program funded entirely by private donations and by the purchase of paving stones inscribed with the names of individual veterans. At the focal point of the memorial, twelve granite-clad tablets, encircling the central flagpole, are to be inscribed with the names of all who gave their lives in military service.

Phase One, including the entry gate and walls, the structural work for the central ring of honor, the flagpole and the main walkway paved with seven hundred stone veteran markers is complete. Phase Two, including walkways to accommodate another 1400 markers, completion of the Ring of Honor, lighting systems, irrigation systems and the main entry gates is presently underway with expected completion in early 2013. Phase Three, including another 1500 veteran markers, landscaping, and a number of sculptural amenities, is planned to be completed as funds are made available.

Construction is being accomplished under a series of multiple contracts and with numerous "in-kind" donations from local contractors, all coordinated by long-time contractor Gary W. Hilliard. Total costs are estimated to be within a range of one million to one and one half million dollars.
